AgenticOS vs OpenAI dots

A dot is an always-on personal agent in ChatGPT. It works on its own cloud computer, uses permitted connected apps and can delegate work while you keep talking. AgenticOS is a self-hosted company platform for configuring, sharing and governing agents. This is a documentation comparison, not a tested account benchmark.

A useful agent should leave you with something you can use. Explore three examples from the AgenticOS product.

Research & operations

Ask the specialists. Get one brief.

Let a lead agent bring together research and analysis from specialist agents. In this example, the brief names its sources and flags the missing financial inputs instead of inventing a margin.

Configure the team’s agents, knowledge and tools, set approval policies and budgets, and inspect runs. Self-hosting also means your team owns deployment and maintenance.

The software is Apache-2.0. Your team still owns hosting, model usage, updates and the policies it configures. Self-hosting alone does not mean zero outbound data.

Choose the operating model

Choose OpenAI dots when it fits the job.

  • You want an ongoing personal agent in ChatGPT without operating an agent platform.
  • Choose on the exact task, tool support and operating requirements; no answer-quality advantage is claimed.
Choose AgenticOS

Run the platform. Make it your own.

  • Your team wants to operate the platform and choose its infrastructure and model providers.
  • You want shared Projects, configurable specialist agents and explicit workflows in one workspace.
  • You want open-source software you can inspect and extend, and accept responsibility for operating it.

Before changing your setup

Treat migration as a small manual experiment: recreate permitted instructions, reconnect tools and verify a read and a rejected write. No automatic importer, transferred login session or direct interoperability is promised.

Make the choice on your own task

One useful agent.
Start there.

Bring a handbook question, a recurring report or a small research task. Build one agent and decide whether this is the workspace you want to run.

Try it on your own infrastructure
