AgenticOS vs Claude

Claude Team and Claude Enterprise give each employee Anthropic's assistant: chat, Projects, Research, Cowork, connectors, skills and Office add-ins, on Claude models, in Anthropic's cloud. AgenticOS builds agents for your organization, not seats for your employees. Each agent has its own job, model, knowledge, budget and access rules, and answers on your website, in your chat tools and through your API.

They are not either-or. AgenticOS can run Claude models through the Anthropic API or Amazon Bedrock, so a Claude subscription and an AgenticOS deployment often sit side by side.

Where AgenticOS goes further

Agents for a job, not assistants for a person

Claude Projects hold instructions and knowledge for the people who chat in them. An AgenticOS agent is a published object with its own version history, environments for testing and a YAML export into your repository. The same agent answers on every surface, including an embeddable widget for anonymous visitors and a hosted page. Anthropic's apps have no widget or per-assistant endpoint for the public.

Any model, and the option to keep it local

Claude plans use Claude models only. AgenticOS reaches 27 providers, including Anthropic and Bedrock for Claude, plus OpenAI, Google, Mistral, and Ollama or LiteLLM on your own hardware. A model profile with fallbacks lets an agent move to another model or provider with no republish.

Approval by someone other than the requester

In Cowork, the person running the task approves write actions, or turns on automatic approval. Anthropic's pages do not describe an approval routed to someone else. In AgenticOS a side-effecting capability tool parks the run. The alert goes to the members you choose, and only someone holding approvals:decide can decide it, once.

Cost per agent, not per seat

Claude limits spend per organization, group and user. There is no per-agent budget, because the apps have no agent object. AgenticOS gives each agent a monthly budget checked before each model request. You see what each agent spent and pay the provider directly, with no seat fee.

Enterprise controls without an Enterprise tier

On Claude, audit logs, custom roles, SCIM, custom retention and the Compliance API are Enterprise-only, with a minimum of 20 seats. AgenticOS ships most of these in every deployment: a tamper-evident audit log, six built-in roles with per-resource grants, directory group mappings and retention per data class. Custom roles and SCIM are not there yet; see the gaps.

Knowledge you can tune

Claude Projects switch to retrieval automatically as project knowledge grows, and expose no settings. In AgenticOS you choose the parser, chunking, OCR and image description per collection. Documents and vectors stay in your Postgres, and sync connectors keep collections current.

When Claude alone is enough

  • You want a strong assistant for every employee with nothing to operate.
  • Cowork, Claude Code, the Office add-ins and Chrome under one seat cover your needs.
  • You need Anthropic's certifications, customer-managed keys or its Compliance API partner integrations.
  • You need SAML or SCIM today. AgenticOS offers OIDC, LDAP and Kerberos, but not SAML or SCIM yet.

Use them together

Keep Claude for employees' everyday work. Use AgenticOS for the agents that need an owner, a budget, an approval step or a public surface. Add an Anthropic model profile and publish the agent: a support widget, a Telegram bot, an internal policy agent. Each of these runs on Claude models under your own governance.

Try one handbook question

Put the shared document fixture in a Claude Project and in an AgenticOS collection, both on the same Claude model. Ask the supported and missing-policy questions, then give the same answer to someone outside the organization. With Claude that needs a seat; with AgenticOS it is a hosted page link. Record what each allows with the comparison method.

Frequently asked questions

Can AgenticOS use Claude models?

Yes. Add a model profile for the Anthropic API or Amazon Bedrock, and any agent can run on Claude. You pay Anthropic or AWS at their API rates.

Is AgenticOS a self-hosted alternative to Claude Enterprise?

For agents your organization publishes, yes. It runs on your infrastructure with per-agent budgets, approvals, roles and a tamper-evident audit log. It does not replace Claude as a personal assistant for every employee.

Does AgenticOS charge per seat?

No. There is no seat or licence fee. Claude Team starts at $20 per seat per month billed annually, and Claude Enterprise adds usage at API rates to its seat fee.

Can people outside the company use an AgenticOS agent?

Yes. An agent answers through a website widget, a hosted page link, the HTTP API, Slack, Telegram or Mattermost, with no seat needed.
