AgenticOS vs Claude Managed Agents¶
Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic's hosted runtime for developers: it runs an agent in a sandbox, keeps its state and checkpoints, and bills a session-hour on top of the tokens. AgenticOS is a runtime too, but with everything a company needs around it - a console to build agents without code, permissions, budgets, approvals, knowledge bases and channels - and it runs on your own servers with any model, Claude included.
If you are a developer building one product on Claude and want Anthropic to host the runtime, Managed Agents is the shortest path. If you want a company's agents built by the people who need them, governed in one place and kept on your infrastructure, AgenticOS is built for that.

Where AgenticOS goes further¶
Built in a browser, not only in code¶
Managed Agents is an API. In AgenticOS an agent is a spec built in the console: instructions, model, capabilities, knowledge and budget, published in versions - and the same agent answers in web chat, Slack, Telegram, a widget and the API.
The company layer around the runtime¶
Roles and grants, budgets, approvals, the audit log and knowledge bases come with the runtime, so a team does not build them around an API.
Your servers, any model¶
The sandbox runs on your Docker host, data stays in your Postgres, and an agent can use Claude, another provider or a local model through a model profile.
When Managed Agents is enough¶
- You are a developer building one product on Claude and want the runtime hosted.
- A session-hour price and Anthropic's cloud suit your workload.
- You do not need a console, channels or company governance around the agent.
Frequently asked questions¶
Is AgenticOS an alternative to Claude Managed Agents?¶
Yes, if you want to run agents yourself. AgenticOS runs agents with a sandbox, state and tools on your own infrastructure, and adds the console, permissions, budgets and channels a company needs. It works with Claude models too.
Can AgenticOS use Claude?¶
Yes. Anthropic is one of 28 providers; you add a key once and choose Claude in a model profile.
