AgenticOS vs OpenBot

Sources checked 2 November 2026. AgenticOS feature baseline: v1.35.0. No OpenBot account or migration was tested.

OpenBot is the local-first AI teammate workspace at openbot.run, backed by nightly-labs/openbot. Its official site also describes team servers and hosting options. It can run existing agent providers, so “local-first” does not mean every model call stays on the computer.

The repository’s license read on 2 November 2026 is PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0. AgenticOS uses Apache-2.0. Compare the actual license and any separately offered commercial terms before choosing a business deployment; the two licensing models are different.

Which workspace fits?

Choose OpenBot for its desktop workspace and provider integrations if they fit your work. Choose AgenticOS for a self-hosted company platform with shared Projects, versioned agents, workflows, virtual tables, budgets and approval policies. This is a documentation comparison, not a tested migration or benchmark.

Move one task first

Recreate one small task in AgenticOS: copy instructions you may reuse, add the necessary knowledge and skills, choose a model, reconnect tools through the vault, and configure budgets and approvals. Test a read and a rejected write before publishing. This is a manual recipe; AgenticOS does not promise an OpenBot importer, transferable login sessions or identical memory.
