AgenticOS vs Microsoft Agent 365¶
Microsoft Agent 365 is a control plane for a company's agents - Microsoft's own, those built in Copilot Studio and some from other vendors - with policies, security and lifecycle management in Entra and Purview. AgenticOS is where agents are both built and governed: one self-hosted layer with the builder, the runtime, the permissions, the budgets and the audit log together.
If your company runs on Microsoft 365 and wants to inventory and police agents it already has, Agent 365 fits that estate. If you want the agents themselves, and the rules over them, on infrastructure you control and with any model, AgenticOS does both in one place.

Where AgenticOS goes further¶
Governance where the agent runs¶
A control plane watches agents that run elsewhere. AgenticOS checks the budget and the approval in the same process that calls the model and the tool, so a rule is enforced at the moment it matters, not reported afterwards.
Outside one vendor's cloud¶
Agent 365 lives in Microsoft's cloud and its licensing. AgenticOS runs where you deploy it, signs in through your directory - Entra ID included - and works with any of 28 model providers.
Open to read and extend¶
AgenticOS is Apache-2.0. An auditor can read how a rule is enforced, and an engineer can add a capability in typed Python.
When Agent 365 is enough¶
- Your company standardises on Microsoft 365, and your agents are built in Copilot Studio or Microsoft's products.
- You need one inventory of agents across Microsoft tools with Purview's policies.
- Microsoft Teams is your main channel today; AgenticOS has no Teams channel yet.
Frequently asked questions¶
Is AgenticOS an alternative to Microsoft Agent 365?¶
For a company that wants its agents built, run and governed in one place it controls, yes. Agent 365 governs agents across Microsoft's estate; AgenticOS is the layer that builds and runs them, with the rules in the same place.
Can AgenticOS sign in with Microsoft Entra ID?¶
Yes. AgenticOS signs in through OIDC, and Entra ID is an OIDC provider; directory groups map to roles.
